Regarding Horse Welfare

At Stóri-Kambur, we care deeply about the welfare of our horses and prioritize their well-being above all else. We believe that horses are not just our business, but also our family, and we treat them as such. To ensure that our horses are happy and healthy, we provide them with ample space and freedom to roam. Our horses live in large, open fields year-round, where they can graze, run, and play to their heart’s content.

In addition, we limit the workload of our horses to one tour per day. We take great pride in being one of the few horse rentals in the country that implements this practice. By doing so, we can guarantee that our horses are not overworked or pushed beyond their limits. We believe that this approach is essential to maintaining the physical and emotional wellness of our horses.

We also keep a close eye on the well-being of all our horses and make sure that they receive the care and attention they need. If we feel that a horse needs a day or two off, we provide them with that time to rest and recharge. We have over 90 horses on our farm, which allows us to have the resources to ensure that our horses receive individualized care and attention.

Our commitment to horse welfare doesn’t end when our horses reach a certain age. When our horses get too old to work, we ensure that they are able to enjoy their retirement in comfort and peace. We provide them with a comfortable living space where they can relax and spend their days in a stress-free environment.

All of our efforts to prioritize the welfare of our horses have a significant impact on their demeanor and behavior. Our horses are more willing to work with us because they know that they only need to do one tour per day, and they are then done for the day. As a result, they are happy, energetic, and responsive to our guests’ needs.
